Every year, Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG) will fund five scholarships for outstanding individuals from West Africa to pursue the Master of Public Policy degree at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford.

AIG Scholars will be expected, upon graduation, to return to their home country and apply their learning experience as change agents in their country’s public sector.

The AIG Scholarships are targeted at graduates between the ages of 25 and 35 with strong intellectual capability, outstanding academic achievements, leadership skills and a passion to contribute to the development of Africa’s public sector.

Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for consideration for the award of an AIG Scholarship, you must:
Be a citizen of Nigeria or Ghana
Be between the ages of 25 and 35 years (must not be 36 years old by December 31, 2019)
Have a first-class or second-class upper undergraduate degree with honours (or equivalent international qualifications), as a minimum, in any discipline. For applicants with a degree from the USA, the minimum GPA sought is 3.7 out of 4.0
Be preferably top 10% of graduating class (First, Second or Master’s Degree) – evidence to be provided
Provide evidence of game-changing leadership and resultant impact
Show skills and interests outside of academics (evidence to be provided)


The AIG Scholarships are fully funded covering fees, accommodation and living expenses do not cover travel or visa expenses, however.

Please note that:
Academic distinction and leadership potential are key priorities for selection.
In the case of candidates with second-class upper qualifications, a Master’s, second degree or relevant professional qualification will be an advantage.
Only applicants shortlisted for the next stage of the selection process will be contacted and any inquiries regarding individual application status is strictly prohibited.

Candidates who emerge as finalists in the Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG) selection process will be expected to apply directly to the Blavatnik School of Government, the University of Oxford, for admissions. Finalists who are offered admission to the Master of Public Policy will be considered by the School in the final selection of AIG Scholars.

Educational Requirements/Professional Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc., B.Eng, B.Tech., HND, etc.) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field with a minimum of second class upper degree/upper credit
Master’s degree in an information technology/information security-related field from a reputable university will also be an added advantage
Relevant Cyber Security e.g. CCNA, CCNA Security, Security +, ISO 27001, ISO 22301, PCIP,  CCIE, CEH, OSCP,CISSP, LPT,CISM,CCISO
Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in any of the following areas will be an added advantage: vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, implementation of security standards, security operations, network monitoring and incident response.

Technical Requirements

Proficient with programming languages such as C, C++, C#, JAVA, PHP, SQL, Python.
Knowledge of various operating systems including but not limited to Windows, Linux/Unix
Understanding of security vulnerabilities in common operating systems, network devices and web applications, including knowledge of remediation procedures.
Proficient in the use of MS-office tools i.e. Excel, Word and Power-point


Ability to research and characterize security threats to include identification and classification of threat indicators.
Identify, rank and prioritize risks and exposures and develop a strategy for mitigation or remediation. Organize and coordinate solutions proposed by team and sells proposed remediation activities to client
Applicants must show a keen interest in Cyber Security and Information Technology
Must have in-depth experience in leading teams for pursuits or engagement delivery
Be of proven integrity, giving attention to confidentiality requirements
Possess excellent writing and oral communication/presentation skills
Very strong leadership and coaching skills
Ability to think outside the box and quickly learn new ideas independently
Be a good team player, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Have the ability to maintain a professional outlook and carriage at all times

Becoming a good travel filmmaker requires more than capturing the highlights of a trip. Judging criteria:

Focus on a specific travel story within a 3-minute timeframe
Show your interviewing skills and ability to coax a good story from your subject
Demonstrate strong filmmaking skills
Show originality
Be visually engaging

If you’re still learning the craft of filmmaking and if creating films is responsible for less than 25% of your income, then you’re eligible to apply. This may mean you have had a few films commissioned in the past, or keep a regular video channel of your own – but it isn’t your full-time gig.
You may submit a film in your local language. However, if people in your film are speaking a language other than English your film must include English subtitles. Keep in mind that English skills are paramount as the scholarship mentor Jenny Nichols only speaks English.

The Vital Voices GROW Fellowship (VV GROW) is a leading global accelerator program for women owners of small and medium-sized businesses. The program includes customized business skills training, leadership development, technical assistance, and access to networks. Through online and in-person training, Fellows focus on strategy and long-term business value, and put those concepts to work with action-oriented strategic plans to grow their businesses. They amplify their role as leaders in their businesses and communities by creating jobs, stimulating long-term economic growth and producing wider social benefits.

Through the program, participants gain knowledge and skills in strategic planning, financial management, marketing, sales, strategic networking, leadership, human resources and communications. Fellows get access to valuable technical assistance and become a part of a supportive global network of women business owners, as well as the Vital Voices network.

The one-year fellowship includes:

1.       Virtual Learning Phase I: Through a series of webinars, assignments, online courses, assessments, and one-on-one calls, fellows learn about core topics and assess the state of their business in order to develop a strategic plan for growth.
2.       In-Person Training: Fellows participate in a 3-4 day workshop during which they learn and practice essential skills including communications. Fellows also get the opportunity to meet, network with, and learn from other fellows in their cohort, Vital Voices staff, trainers and others.
3.       Virtual Learning Phase II: Following the in-person training, fellows build on Phase I and begin implementing their strategic plans and learn about additional topics critical to achieving her business growth goals.  Fellows are also connected to individualized growth services and support provided by Vital Voices partners. 

Women business owners who:

  1. Own a business that…

  1. Has been operating for at least 3 years
  2. Employs at least 3 full-time staff (or the equivalent of 3 full-time staff in part-time staff) including the applicant
  3. Generates at least USD $40,000 in annual sales
  4. Reside in the same country as their business for at least 7 months out of the year
  5. Are proficient in spoken and written English


There is a participation fee of USD 1,500 for this program, which is approximately 5% of the overall program cost per participant. The fee can be paid in instalments and a limited number of need and merit-based scholarships will be available to accepted applicants. Vital Voices will cover all travel expenses (flight, accommodations, meals, visa fees) for the 3-4-day in-person training.

A limited number of merit-based scholarships will be available. Details will be provided in the notifications of acceptance into the program.
The VV GROW Fellowship is a highly competitive program that provides customized business skills training and support valued at over US $25,000 per participant. Through the Fellowship, participants will:
  • Increase their knowledge, skills, and confidence in strategic planning, financial management, marketing & sales, strategic networking, leadership, human resources, and communications
  • Receive guidance, training and support from global expert business trainers
  • Establish valuable relationships and be a part of a Vital Voices global network of women business leaders (VV GROW Cohort 7)
  • Participate in a transformative 3-4 day in-person training previously held in various cities throughout the world
  • Receive referral(s) to business support services and other growth opportunities
  • Receive a certificate of program completion
