YGAP Kenya Accelerator Programme for Entrepreneurs

Deadline: 15 November 2019
YGAP accelerator programs aim to back impact entrepreneurs – or as they like to call them ‘local leaders’ –who have solutions to local problems in some of the world’s toughest communities.
They support these local leaders who live there and have developed their own. Meaning their role is simply help refine and scale their solutions.

The start-ups selected will go through three stages:

Entrepreneur: We believe the best solutions to poverty are entrepreneurial, so they focus on early-stage ventures that exist to improve access to education or healthcare, create jobs or build safer homes.
Local: You’re a local of the area who intimately understands the problems that you are trying to solve.
Early Stage: You will have already launched a venture or run a pilot and have some early traction or proof of concept. You will typically have less than 10 customers or clients and have been in operation for less than two years.
Ventures that are improving lives: At the end of the day, we exist to improve the lives of people living in poverty. If you believe your venture is improving the lives of people living in poverty, we encourage you to apply.
If you’re a founder of an early-stage venture aimed at improving the lives of people living in tough conditions, we want to hear from you! If you don’t hit all of these criteria perfectly, we still encourage you to apply as you may still be considered!

Google AI Residency Program 2020 for young graduates in STEM (12 Months residency in Google)

Application Deadline: December 19, 2019.
The Google AI Residency Program is a 12-month research training role designed to jumpstart or advance your career in machine learning research.
With machine learning fast becoming a critical area for a broad range of applications, we recognized the need to evolve our research goals and expand beyond deep learning to include a breadth of machine learning subfields. People from a wide range of disciplines are beginning to realize the importance and impact of this area of research. With growing interest in the field, there is a corresponding need for researchers with hands-on experience in machine learning techniques and methodologies.

Residents will have the opportunity to be mentored by distinguished scientists and engineers from various teams within Google AI, and work on real-world machine learning problems and applications. Also, they will also, have the opportunity to collaborate and partner closely with various research groups across Google and Alphabet.
The residency program is similar to spending a year in a Master’s or PhD program in machine learning. Residents are expected to read papers, work on research projects, and encouraged to publish in top-tier venues. By the end of the program, residents are expected to gain significant research experience in machine learning.
The ideal candidate either has a degree (BS, MS or PhD) or equivalent experience in a STEM field such as CS, Math or Statistics. Having said that, we highly encourage candidates with non-traditional backgrounds and experiences from all over the world to apply to our program.
Most importantly we are looking for individuals who are motivated to learn and have a strong interest and passion for machine learning research.
