“If girls are educated, they will be well respected and appreciated in the society.” - Juliet, JSS 2 Student, CSS Amadi-Ama
“Girls’ Progress = Goals’ Progress: A Global Girl Data Movement” was the theme for this year’s International Day of the Girl Child annually celebrated on the 11th of October. KIR Foundation
commemorated the day with girls at two secondary schools; Community Secondary School (CSS) Amadi-ama and Community.
Secondary School (CSS) Abuloma. With support from volunteers; Inyene Akpan and Stella Wobidike, computer programmers who are staff of Cinfores Limited; KIR Foundation organized a talk at both schools on ‘The Benefits of Women in Technology’.
Inyene and Stella emphasized on the importance of girls developing technological skills, and also taking advantage of opportunities available in the ICT sector. Seventy-seven girls at CSS, Abuloma and sixty-eight girls at CSS, Amadi-Ama benefitted from the sessions. During the two sessions, we observed a high level of ignorance on the part of the girls in choosing a career path in technology. Therefore, KIR Foundationwill hold an ICT / Leadership Holiday Camp Project in August 2017.
