‘Peace Begins with Me’ was the theme of the 3rd Edition of the Keeping It Real (KIR) Foundation World Poetry Day Competition. The objective of this project activity is to identify and coach budding writers in Primary schools to become better skilled in the art of writing especially poetry.

Three public Primary Schools; Army Children Primary School Rainbow Town, Model Primary School Nkpogu and Community Primary School Amadi-Ama in Port Harcourt, Rivers State participated in the competition. One hundred and eighty-six pupils submitted entries for the poetry competition.

Four pupils from two of the three schools; Army Children Primary School Rainbow Town and Model Primary School Nkpogu emerged as finalists. Master Idongesit Okon, a Primary Five pupil emerged as the overall winner of the 2017 KIR Foundation Poetry Competition.

The final three received certificates and digital dictionaries as prizes. All the four finalists had the opportunity to read their poems on live television at Rivers State Television (RSTV) and at Rhythm 93.7FM in Port Harcourt. KIR Foundation appreciates the Academy of Poets in Port Harcourt for partnering with us to commemorate the 2017 World Poetry Day.
