PROMOTING THE LOVE OF BOOKS - INTERNATIONAL BOOK GIVING DAY 2017

According to Global Citizen, a lack of learning materials is the fourth barrier to education around the world. KIR Foundation shared love on the 14th of February 2017 by putting books into the hands of those who are eager to learn, but do not have the means to buy or have access to books. Furthermore, we promote the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) Goal 4, particularly target 4.2 which focuses on access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education.

On Tuesday, 14th of February 2017, while others celebrated Valentine’s Day, KIR Foundation shared love by donating 50 storybooks to 50 children between the ages of 5 to 8 years. The children were primary one pupil’s of two primary schools; Community Primary School Amadi-Ama and Army Children Primary School Rainbow Town in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in Nigeria.

Also, KIR Foundation partnered with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Group of the Nigerian Youth Corps Service (NYSC) in Port Harcourt and The Catholic Prison Outreach in Lagos to provide educational supplies in the form of text books, writing materials (exercise books, pens, markers, boards) and writing chalk to the Port Harcourt Maximum Security Prison in Rivers State, Ikoyi Prisons and Kirikiri Medium Prisons in Lagos State.

International Book Giving Day focuses on inspiring everyone, everywhere to give a book to a child.
